RACE TAKE 1ST & 2ND IN ELITE WOMEN EVENT
The Victorian Country Road Championships were held on Sunday 30 May at Newstead. The weather was challenging with strong winds.
A group of 11 elite women headed out over the 90km circuit. Chloe Mcintosh kept the speed up with Rachel Rayner and Nicole working hard swapping turns.
The bunch approached the first climb where Felicity Wilson made a small attack stretching the field out before turning on the highway. The bunch regrouped so again Felicity attacked 2 more times before breaking away along the highway and stayed away til half way up the sharp climb. Rachel, Carly, and Chloe bridged across to Felicity, and the 4 girls held a gap before Chloe lost touch with the leading 3 riders.
Carly, Rachel and Felicity worked hard to increase their lead holding off 2 chasing riders with a 3min lead on the second lap. Approaching the final stages of the first lap Carly seized the opportunity to attack with Felicity going across to Carly. Carly and Felicity worked hard to hold off any chasing riders. It was a real team effort for both Carly and Felicity.
The climbs proved testing on the final lap with Carly tiring. Felicity crossed the line in 1st place, Carly 2nd place and Rachel 3rd place.
RACE team took 1st and 2nd in the Elite women event, a great team effort ensured the race unfolded with a 1, 2 finnish.

ANOTHER WIN FOR BIKEFORCE SATURDAY 1/5/10 - RUTHERGLEN HANICAP 100km
By team member: Dave Phillips
The course was a 33km loop from Rutherglen to the Chiltern township return. Some gentle climbing on dead roads with a couple of challenging crests...
The winner (W Gordin) was from the 15 minute bunch ahead of scratch. Their group roared past my bunch at about 48kmph at the 33km mark (all I heard from Bill was... Dave GET ON) - still 67kms to go!!! Andrew Clarke from Becoz was the only other rider I knew in the bunch. Many from the 18 minute bunch merged with the 15 min bunch to fight out the race. There would have been 20 in the finish in the end - many not seen in this photo due to the steam-train one DP started with 1.5kms to go (STUPID)...could hear Jeff Provan's famous words of wisdom for racing in my head after "waiting....waiting........." should have listened but there was not much left in the tank after cramping with a short distance to go. Tried to create a break up the crest but to no avail - looked over my shoulder and a train had formed....Bill was sitting 5th wheel I am told....perfect place to be.
In the wash up this newly formed bunch put 2 minutes into the chasing groups who had merged (9 and 12 minute bunches) at the finsih to be ahead by 5 minutes approx. Scratch and 3 mins were a couple of minutes behind them and that group included the likes of Ricco Rogers and Leigh Egan. My average was 40.94kmph for the race and I finished just behind the sprint.
A large attrition rate with only about 65 finishing out of a field of 137. Overall a well run (Innagural) event by Cycle Sport Victoria (In conjuction with hosts Albury Wodonga Cycling Club).

TDT WOMEN’S RACE TEAM COMPETE IN THE BAY CRITS 2010 -
January 5, 2010
The Jayco Bay Cycling Classic is the world’s fastest criterium series, comprising of a world class field in the four-day event which started on Geelong’s beautiful Eastern Gardens on Saturday January 2, a separate circuit in Eastern Gardens on Sunday January 3. Geelong’s exciting Ritchie Boulevard Hot Dog circuit hosted the penultimate day on January 4, and the grand finale will be held in Williamstown on Tuesday Jan 5.
The TDT Women’s race team entered their elite team which yielded some impressive results and personal blows!
Jenny McPherson recovered from a massive fall on day one that resulted in a sufficient amount of skin being lost – to show an incredible amount of determination to win important points in the sprint classification in race two. Jenny then rejoined the race the following day and came-up with a very strong performance.
Race 3 saw the TDT RACE Team get its first podium of the year (and more to come!!) with Emma Makie coming in second in a photo finish.
A brilliant result for all concerned and big things to come later in the week with the Nationals being held in Ballarat…
The team have had a brilliant start to the year and we look forward to many more great results throughout the year… |
